Youth Advisory Committee

The NWR Youth Advisory Committee is composed of 12-15 representatives (aged 14-20) living within the Nechako Watershed who have a keen interest in water health, sustainability and climate change issues. Youth members share their unique insights into key sustainability and climate priorities facing the region and can identify ideas for projects they would like to initiate that address those specific challenges.

NWR Core Committee members will support fellow youth in implementing exciting sustainability initiatives and in fostering their practical skills and confidence to act on pressing issues in their communities.

Nechako Watershed Youth Advisory Committee members meet 6-8 times over a 12-month period.

Members will:

  • Help co-create a “Call to Action for Watershed Health” where they will list opportunities for youth to contribute to conservation and sustainability solutions within their communities.
  • Observe the workings of NWR’s consensus-based decision-making core committee, and network and build relationships with them.
  • Gain leadership experience in organizational governance and planning, supporting NWR in sustaining organizational momentum in the long-term.
  • Have opportunities for hands-on learning and job shadowing through programs such as the lakes monitoring and portal project and others.
  • Organize and host public events such as BC Rivers Day to raise awareness of water sustainability and conservation efforts.
